Google may be liable for YouTube gambling videos in Italy
( July 16, 2026, 09:03 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Google could be held liable for YouTube videos promoting online gambling in Italy published by a content creator with whom it had a commercial partnership, the EU's highest court said Thursday in a case referred from an Italian court. The EU Court of Justice said in a statement that hosting providers can't rely on the E-Commerce Directive's liability exemption if they acquire knowledge or control over content through such partnerships. It is for the Italian court to decide whether Google's review of the creator's channel before entering the partnership gave it sufficient knowledge of the unlawful content, it said.Press release is attached....
