ACLU, EFF, others support injunction against Texas app store law on appeal
( June 24, 2026, 21:20 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The American Civil Liberties Union, Electronic Frontier Foundation and other groups told a US appeals court that Texas’ App Accountability Act unconstitutionally compels speech by forcing developers to opine on the appropriateness of constitutionally protected speech for minors. Additionally, the content-based age verification and parental consent requirement restricts minors from accessing speech they are entitled to receive and burdens adults’ access as well. “Because there is no age-based difference in the constitutional protections for the vast majority of the speech regulated by the Act, there is no constitutionally supportable justification for age verification,” they argued.
