Philippine House advances disinformation bill on second reading

( May 29, 2026, 03:06 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Philippine House of Representatives approved on second reading a bill that would impose criminal penalties for the intentional dissemination of false information causing public harm or threatening national security. The proposed Digital Media Anti-False Information Act would provide for prison terms of six to 12 years and fines of 500,000 pesos ($8,100) to 2 million pesos. The measure would also target coordinated disinformation operations, including bot networks and fake-account syndicates, and require online platforms operating in the Philippines to comply with transparency and user-protection obligations.Statement follows....
