EU’s digital fairness law could disproportionately hit media, trade groups say

( April 27, 2026, 16:30 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The EU’s planned law to strengthen protection and digital fairness for consumers, the Digital Fairness Act, could create disproportionate impacts on low-risk media businesses, trade groups representing the media and creative sectors said. In a joint letter to the European Commission's tech and consumer protection chiefs, the groups said the policymakers should target services and business models posing a real risk rather than duplicating requirements for already well-regulated sectors. Under the planned DFA, media firms could be penalized for using features such as autoplay or personal advertising which were not inherently harmful, the groups said.Letter attached....
