Norway social media age ban should specify age verification method, watchdog says

( April 24, 2026, 15:49 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Norway’s planned law banning social media for children until the start of the year they are due to turn 16 should specify how tech companies should carry out age verification to ensure good privacy protection, the national data watchdog has said. In a statement, it said it was a risk if the technology platforms themselves chose what age verification solution to use. The watchdog also said to prevent data from being misappropriated, only necessary information should be collected and there should be adequate security and strict deletion mechanisms.Statement follows (in Norwegian)....
