Telegram’s child sexual abuse material handling to be investigated by UK’s Ofcom

( April 21, 2026, 09:54 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Messaging service Telegram’s potential fault in the sharing of child sexual abuse material, or CSAM, on its platform is the subject of an investigation by Ofcom, the UK media and communications regulator. In a statement published Tuesday, Ofcom said it is looking into whether the service complies with the Online Safety Act by not preventing CSAM from being shared, nor by swiftly taking it down. If the investigators find Telegram in violation, fines of up to £18 million or 10 percent of qualifying worldwide revenue could be imposed.Statement follows....
