Judge in Live Nation suit urged by US Senate Democrats to scrutinize DOJ settlement

( April 15, 2026, 15:46 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US Senators Amy Klobuchar, Elizabeth Warren and four other Democrats urged US Judge Arun Subramanian of the Southern District of New York to use his authority under the Tunney Act to closely scrutinize the Department of Justice’s proposed settlement with Live Nation and Ticketmaster. The lawmakers are asking the court to ensure the DOJ made its decision based on the public interest, while warning that the deal fails to restore competition and protect fans, artists, and independent venues. "The very terms of the settlement cast doubt on whether the agreement was entered with the intention to protect the public interest from Live Nation’s monopoly," the letter said. There is credible evidence that Ticketmaster controls more than 70 percent of all major concert venues with exclusive ticketing contracts, that Live Nation controls 80 percent of the “major concert amphitheaters” market, they said.Statement follows.
