China's platforms purge 37,000 noncompliant clips in content labeling crackdown

( March 21, 2026, 03:47 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Six major Chinese platforms — Douyin, Kuaishou, Tencent, RedNote, Bilibili and Sina Weibo — met their primary responsibilities for content labeling of short videos over the past month, according to the Cyberspace Administration of China. The companies purged over 37,000 videos that did not comply with labeling requirements for AI-generated content, fabricated dramatization or staged marketing. They also suspended over 3,400 accounts and added labels to more than 600,000 videos. Under CAC directives, the platforms are required to define essential label categories, encourage users to tag content and conduct phased corrections by retrospectively reviewing and adding labels on existing short-video materials. The CAC said it will roll out a nationwide drive to standardize short-video content labeling and rigorously sanction accounts and platforms that fail to comply.Statement follows (in Chinese). ...
