Thailand court opens online 'take-it-down' system for obscene content

( January 26, 2026, 08:23 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Thailand’s Court of Justice has launched an online system allowing individuals to seek court orders to remove or block the dissemination of obscene images or videos, marking the first use of the country’s “take it down” mechanism. Starting Monday, affected individuals can submit petitions through the Courts of Justice Online Service under Section 284/4 of the Criminal Code, which empowers courts to order the suspension or deletion of obscene online content. The system is intended to assist victims of online sexual harassment and abuse. Petitions must be filed using digital identity verification via the government’s ThaID application. Claims for damages must be pursued separately and cannot be included in take-down requests. The pilot phase applies only to the Criminal Court, which has nationwide jurisdiction over such petitions, while paper-based filings remain available at courts nationwide.Statement follows (in Thai)....
