Japan approves $73m in loans, subsidies for undersea cables to Malaysia, Singapore

( January 23, 2026, 06:45 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said Friday it has approved loans and subsidies of up to $73 million to support the expansion and operation of undersea cables between Japan, Malaysia and Singapore. Responding to the increased network traffic in recent years, the state-backed Fund Corporation for the Overseas Development of Japan’s ICT and Postal Services will provide funding jointly with NTT Ltd. Japan, Sumitomo Corporation and JA Mitsui Leasing, among others. The funding “will contribute to Japanese businesses’ international global competitiveness and economic security,” the ministry said in a statement.Statement follows (in Japanese)....
