Japan approves $73m in loans, subsidies for undersea cables to Malaysia, Singapore

( January 23, 2026, 06:45 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said Friday it has approved loans and subsidies of up to $73 million to support the expansion and operation of undersea cables between Japan, Malaysia and Singapore. Responding to the increased network traffic in recent years, the state-backed Fund Corporation for the Overseas Development of Japan’s ICT and Postal Services will provide funding jointly with NTT Ltd. Japan, Sumitomo Corporation and JA Mitsui Leasing, among others.
