UK opens consultation on under-16s social media ban

Ministers will visit Australia — where such a ban has been in place since December — to “learn first-hand from their approach,” the government said. The consultation will also examine raising the minimum age for social media access, strengthening age-verification requirements, and limiting addictive design features such as infinite scrolling. The proposals follow intense scrutiny over online harms, after X’s chatbot Grok attracted worldwide anger over its widespread use for the creation of sexualized deepfakes.Statement follows....
