Thailand blocks more than 220,000 illegal URLs in three months

( January 19, 2026, 08:57 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Thailand’s Ministry of Digital Economy and Society has blocked more than 220,000 illegal social media pages and website URLs over a three-month period, with online gambling accounting for the vast majority of cases. In a statement on Monday, government spokesman Wetang Phuangsub said authorities blocked the URLs between Oct. 1, 2025, and Jan. 11, 2026, with gambling-related content making up more than 180,000 of the total. Other illegal content blocked included electronic cigarettes, alcohol advertising, cannabis trading, prostitution and firearms. The enforcement forms part of a broader government campaign against online crime and social harms, with the ministry using its “WebD” platform, which deploys artificial intelligence and robotic process automation to detect illegal content, collect evidence, generate paperless court requests and issue blocking orders to internet service providers, alongside ongoing monitoring through a URL-checking system.Statement follows (in Thai)....
