Apple revises iOS rules in Japan to comply with new competition law

( December 18, 2025, 01:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Apple has unveiled new iOS rules and revised business terms for app developers in Japan to comply with the Mobile Software Competition Act, which took full effect on Thursday. The US tech giant said it will allow alternative app stores and payment methods and will cut its standard 30 percent commission to a baseline 21 percent, with an optional 5 percent fee for developers that continue to use Apple’s payment system. For developers that steer users to web-based payments linked to their apps, Apple will charge a 15 percent store-services commission.
