South Korea taps Yonsei law professor to lead communications regulator

( November 28, 2025, 07:05 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s Presidential Office has nominated Kim Jong-cheol, a 59-year-old law professor at Yonsei University, as the new chairman of the Korea Media and Communications Commission. It has also appointed Ryu Shin-hwan, a lawyer at Seoul-based law firm Jihyang, as one of the commissioners. Professor Kim previously chaired the Korean Public Law Association, the Korean Society for Media Law, Ethics and Policy Research and the Korean Association of Human Rights Law. Ryu brings extensive experience in media law, having served in several press-rights organizations and media-oversight committees.Statement attached (in Korean)....
