Australians back consent requirements for children's online privacy, report finds

( November 20, 2025, 06:54 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Australians have called for consent-first data practices along with direct and upfront explanations about how companies handle children’s personal information, a report says. In a statement on Thursday announcing the release of “Children’s Online Privacy Code: Public Consultation Report,” the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner said the regulator asked children, parents and carers about children’s online privacy and that over 337 participants completed the worksheets and questionnaires. The report said that while there was broad opposition to targeted advertising to children and to default location tracking, findings also show that parents and carers are often faced with long and complicated privacy policies when consenting to their child's use of educational apps at school.Statement follows; report is attached. ...
