Google's AI Overviews role should be investigated, Italian newspapers group says

( October 16, 2025, 17:33 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Google's AI Overviews should be investigated for violating key provisions of the EU's digital services law and having a detrimental impact on Italian users, consumers and businesses, the FIEG Italian newspaper publishers federation has said. In a statement on Wednesday, FIEG said Google was becoming a "traffic killer" by putting AI responses to users' queries into search results without requiring users to click through to original sources. As a result, the product was competing directly with the content of publishers and also reducing their visibility, it said.
