UK telecom operators to bid for 5.4GHz of mmWave spectrum in new Ofcom auction

( September 3, 2025, 10:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The UK will make 5.4 gigahertz of spectrum available in its largest release yet, with applications for 26GHz and 40GHz licenses to open on Sept. 16, media regulator Ofcom announced today. The use of these bands — known as mmWave spectrum — is expected to improve mobile services and wireless applications that require large amounts of data or very high speeds. The auction will cover 68 high-demand areas to support faster 5G services and increased capacity in cities and venues while also boosting rural broadband and industrial uses, Ofcom said.Statement follows.
