UK telecom providers face expanded cyber obligations under revised security code

( August 29, 2025, 11:58 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: UK telecom providers can expect tougher security obligations under an updated version of the 2022 Telecommunications Security Code of Practice. The changes, unveiled today, would require operators to strengthen protections around eSIM technology, encryption, privileged access workstations and Application Programming Interfaces. With implementation deadlines stretching to 2028, the new requirements account for evolving technologies and emerging threats, which include attacks linked to hostile states, the government said. Officials warned that outages or cyberattacks on the telecom sector could have “catastrophic consequences” without stronger security measures.
