China's Guangdong province pulls AI app, tightens Internet enforcement in Q2

( July 25, 2025, 09:39 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Internet regulator in Guangdong, China, has disclosed that it removed an AI-powered service and issued a warning to its operator after the app generated vulgar and indecent audio and text content. In its report on second-quarter network complaints and enforcement, the regulator said an on-site inspection found the app’s review mechanism inadequate. The company had also failed to implement a cybersecurity management system or an emergency response plan, in violation of China’s Cybersecurity Law and generative AI regulations. As part of a broader crackdown, provincial and local authorities summoned 87 online platforms for regulatory discussions, issued 19 warnings, fined 12 operators, removed 42 mobile Internet apps from marketplaces, and shut down 27 illegal websites in coordination with the provincial communications administration.
