UK online platforms won't face public scorecard displaying safety measures

( July 18, 2025, 18:30 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Social media platforms won't be subject to a government-backed public scorecard displaying their online safety efforts, the UK government said today in response to recommendations from a youth committee. While rejecting many suggestions in the Youth Select Committee’s March 2025 report, such as the “name and shame” strategy proposed to expose platforms, the government backed others, including requiring media regulator Ofcom to report on action taken to improve platform safety and to embed social media literacy in teacher training.Statement follows.
