New EU e-commerce roadmap adds tools, but no fix for ‘parcel tsunami’

But with 4.6 billion parcels entering the bloc in 2024 — 91 percent of them from China — concerns remain over enforcement capacity and impact on EU businesses. The reform’s final wording isn’t expected before early 2026, and key infrastructure — such as the EU Data Hub — might not be ready before 2028.With an unprecedented wave of low-value parcels entering the EU each month, the bloc is reinforcing its customs arsenal with plans to tax every package that comes in. But doubts persist over whether the timing and scope of the plan can truly address the root of the overload, or simply act as a temporary patch....
