UK children’s online safety codes must set ‘ambitious standards’

( April 14, 2025, 14:23 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The upcoming children's code under the UK Online Safety Act — expected to be published this month by national regulator Ofcom — must establish “ambitious standards that go beyond codification of existing industry practices,” a group of charities urged in a letter today. Ofcom's Protection of Children Codes and guidance will outline what any services likely to be accessed by children must include in their children's risk assessment by July this year. Platforms have until Wednesday, April 16 to complete a preliminary assessment on whether they are likely to be used by minors.Statement follows. Full letter attached....
