US judge pauses suit challenging MN political deepfake law pending appeal

( March 12, 2025, 16:07 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US District Judge Laura M. Provinzino agreed to pause a lawsuit challenging a Minnesota law criminalizing the sharing of AI-generated election deepfakes, pending a decision on appeal by the Eighth Circuit. The appeal was initiated by plaintiffs Republican Minnesota state Representative Mary Franson and conservative content creator Christopher Kohls, after Provinzino declined to quickly block the law in February and found that only Franson had standing to challenge the law.
