Google insists Android boosted competition as EU's top court hears appeal

Lawyers for the company described Android as "the most procompetitive mobile platform in history" and said it helped ensure the "widespread adoption of smart mobile devices." The European Commission said Google used Android to "cement" its dominance in what was then the emerging mobile sector.Google's Android operating system for smartphones “fostered” innovation, freedom and choice in the mobile sector, lawyers for the company told the EU’s highest court today, arguing that the biggest single European antitrust fine to date should be quashed....
