South Korea warns egg, pork producers of funding cuts, license suspension over cartels

( March 27, 2026, 02:44 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The South Korean government has warned that it may cut public funding for egg and pork producers’ associations and suspend their licenses if the country’s competition regulator confirms they have colluded to fix prices. The inter-ministerial taskforce on consumer prices announced the measures on Thursday, as part of broader efforts to curb price hikes amid the war in Iran and mounting inflationary pressure. Potential funding cuts include 950 billion won ($630 million) in feed purchase loans for egg farms, as well as 102.8 billion won in loans and 33 billion won in subsidies for livestock facility modernization. On March 12, the Korea Fair Trade Commission imposed a combined fine of 3.2 billion won on pork processors. It has also been investigating an egg producers’ association since June 2025 over suspicions it drove egg price increases. The statements are attached (in Korean). ...
