France secures EU approval for €20bn electricity supply security aid

( December 22, 2025, 10:50 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: France has won approval from the European Commission for a €20 billion reform of its electricity capacity mechanism aimed at ensuring security of supply during winter peak periods. The program, which has an estimated annual cost of around €2 billion, will run for 10 years, starting in November 2026 and will remunerate capacity needed to meet France’s reliability standard. It will cover generation, storage and demand-response projects, with participation initially limited to France and Belgium before extending to other neighboring EU states.The press release is attached....
