Belgium circumvented state aid law over arbitration awards, EU Commission says

( December 11, 2025, 11:41 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The European Commission has opened an infringement procedure against Belgium, accusing it of circumventing state aid rule procedures. The country had recognized arbitration awards that would oblige Spain to compensate investors over a modification of its renewable energy scheme after the awards had been notified to the commission but before they were approved. That amounted to circumvention, to which Belgium should have been "opposed," the commission said. Belgium has two months to respond.Press release follows....
