Swedish aid to Stockholms Hamn could be state aid, top EU court says

( November 20, 2025, 10:23 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Compensation paid by the Swedish Maritime Adminstration to Stockholms Hamn is state aid if the wholly owned municipal company is an undertaking and the support gives it an advantage, the EU Court of Justice said Thursday. The court also said the compensation paid to Stockholms Hamn for its loss of revenue from the abolition of lockage fees, albeit not notified to the European Commission, must be classified as existing aid. The Stockholm District Court will now have to assess whether Stockholms Hamn can be classified as an undertaking and whether it was granted an advantage. The judgment is attached.
