Cross-border aid for medical devices project wins EU approval

( July 22, 2025, 09:45 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: France, Hungary, Italy, Slovakia and Slovenia have won EU approval to publicly fund an Important Project of Common European Interest — known as an IPCEI — in the healthcare sector. They will provide up to 403 million euros in state support for the plan, which will support R&D in medical devices, and which is expected to spur an additional 826 million euros in private investment, the European Commission said. This is the second initiative in the healthcare sector approved by the commission under its 2021 state aid rules on IPCEIs, which seek to enable member states to invest in large, innovative projects that wouldn’t materialize in the private sector. The statement follows.
