New Zealand government targets red tape in land acquisitions

( March 10, 2025, 04:07 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: New Zealand’s 1981 Public Works Act will be amended to accelerate the acquisition of land needed for public projects, the government has announced. In a joint statement, New Zealand Infrastructure Minister Chris Bishop and Land Information Minister Chris Penk said that the government will get major infrastructure projects underway faster by “speeding up land acquisition and delivering fairer payments for landowners.” The government will offer landowners a 15 percent premium, capped at NZ$150,000, for voluntarily selling land before a formal notice is issued, and a 5 percent recognition payment, capped at NZ$92,000, for all land acquired under the accelerated process.The joint statement by New Zealand Infrastructure Minister Chris Bishop and Land Information Minister Chris Penk follows:...
