Rex debt purchase will help maintain air connections, Australian government says

( January 24, 2025, 00:14 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Australian government has announced it will acquire A$50 million ($31.4 million) of debt from the largest creditor of failed airline Rex Airlines, as part of a campaign to ensure air services to regional and remote parts of the country are maintained. In a statement, Minister for Transport Catherine King said the acquisition of the debt from PAGAC Regulus, the airline’s largest creditor, will place the government in the position to “prevent an adverse outcome” for regional communities. The deal means the Australian government will become the principal secured creditor and will seek to become a voting member of the committee dealing with the airline’s liquidation. The full statement from Australian Minister for Transport Catherine King follows: ...
