( October 14, 2026, 13:05 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Australia’s new mandatory merger regime is revealing serial acquisitions and patterns of consolidation that previously would have escaped the competition watchdog’s scrutiny, a top official will say on Thursday. At a competition conference in Sydney, Australian Competition & Consumer Commission Chair Gina Cass-Gottlieb will say the regime is providing greater visibility on consolidation that could weaken competition and increase consumer prices. She will note that the regulator was seeing high rates of acquisitions in medical, dental and veterinary services, as well as numerous acquisitions in aged care and hospitality. A significant number of deals involved Australian and international private-equity firms or investment funds, including acquisitions where firms appeared to be "rolling-up" several smaller businesses into larger entities, the regulator will say.Statements are attached....
