( September 18, 2026, 21:29 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US Surface Transportation Board denied motions seeking summary denial of the revised merger application filed by Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern, the board announced. BNSF Railway, CSX Transportation and a coalition of shipper associations had filed motions for summary denial of a revised application, arguing that the companies failed to present a prima facia case. "Today’s decision to continue developing the record does not reflect any determination on the merits of the proposed transaction nor is it an endorsement of Applicants’ arguments, analyses, or positions," the STB said. "The Board notes that commenters should renew any arguments on the merits of the proposed transaction in their opening comments, which are due by November 18, 2026.
