Charter, Cox argue CPUC ALJ's rewritten settlement 'unprecedented,' 'unnecessary'
( July 27, 2026, 17:35 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Charter Communications and Cox Communications filed a motion with the California Public Utilities Commission, arguing that parties should not have to accept or reject the settlement rewritten by the administrative law judge overseeing the case before the commission's vote and that combining the proposed settlements into one is "unprecedented and unnecessary." The proposed decision from judge Jaime Ormond proposed 20 modifications to the settlements between the companies and the California Emerging Technology Fund and Cal Advocates, while the alternate proposed decision by Commissioner Matthew Baker accepted the settlements with minor clarifications. Charter and Cox request that further consideration of alternative settlement terms be held in abeyance until the commission completes its consideration of the proposed decision and alternative proposed decision.See attached document....
