Coles' Western Australia supermarket site acquisition blocked by ACCC

In a statement on Wednesday, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission said the Kalgoorlie grocery market is currently served by four full-line supermarkets, including Coles, Woolworths and two independent operators, alongside two smaller independent supermarkets. The ACCC said it was likely the acquisition would lead to the exit of an effective independent full-line competitor and its assets from Kalgoorlie and result in a reduction in the competitive constraints on the major supermarket chains.Statement follows.
