Godfrey Hirst's proposal to acquire Bremworth cleared in New Zealand

( June 30, 2026, 06:57 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The proposal by Godfrey Hirst, one of Mohawk Industries’ interconnected body corporates, to acquire carpet-manufacturing and distribution peer Bremworth has been approved for New Zealand’s competition regulator. In a statement on Tuesday, the New Zealand Commerce Commission said despite initial concerns, it is satisfied that the acquisition is unlikely to substantially lessen competition in the soft-flooring market. The regulator added that while the acquisition would eliminate direct competition between Godfrey Hirst and Bremworth in the supply of wool carpets, the merged company would still face competitive pressure from suppliers of synthetic and wool carpets, as well as from consumers and retailers switching between carpet types if prices increased.Statement follows....
