ANZCO's bid for Greenlea under review by New Zealand watchdog

( June 23, 2026, 05:12 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: ANZCO Foods’ proposal to acquire Greenlea Group is being reviewed by New Zealand’s competition watchdog. The New Zealand Commerce Commission said in a statement on Tuesday said it is assessing whether the deal could substantially lessen competition in cattle procurement and processed beef supply markets. The regulator said it has identified potential concerns around the acquisition of cattle for processing in the North Island and the domestic supply of processed beef products. It has invited submissions from interested parties by July 7 ahead of a decision planned by Aug. 18. Christchurch-based ANZCO argues the transaction would combine geographically complementary processing operations, strengthen its North Island beef-processing business and remain constrained by major rivals.Statement follows. Application and statement of preliminary issues attached. ...
