Reported merger of Hong Kong supermarket giants being monitored, regulator says

( April 17, 2026, 11:26 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Hong Kong's Competition Commission said Friday it is monitoring reports of a potential merger between Wellcome and ParknShop, the city's two largest supermarket chains said to account for nearly 90 percent of the market. In an emailed statement to MLex, the regulator said it is "paying close attention to the matter and any future developments" regarding reports that Wellcome owner Jardine Matheson is discussing acquiring ParknShop from CK Hutchison Holdings to merge the two. Hong Kong's merger-control rules currently apply only to the telecommunications sector.Competition Commission response follows....
