eBay’s plan to acquire fashion-app Depop faces regulatory review in Australia

( April 7, 2026, 04:43 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A proposal by eBay Inc. to acquire 100 percent of the shares in Depop from Etsy, will be reviewed by Australia’s competition watchdog. In a statement on Tuesday, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission said eBay, a multinational e-commerce corporation headquartered in the US, facilitates e-commerce transactions across a wide range of sectors in Australia. The regulator said Depop, which started in 2011 as a social shopping platform, was acquired by Etsy in 2021. The statement said Depop operates a mobile-first pre-owned fashion online marketplace and is predominantly active in the US, the UK and Australia.
