Origin Energy plan to acquire stake in Kraken under Australian regulator's review

( March 26, 2026, 06:54 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Origin Energy’s proposed acquisition of a minority stake in Kraken Technologies is being reviewed by the Australian antitrust regulator. In a statement on Wednesday, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission said Origin Energy International Holdings, a subsidiary of Origin Energy, plans to acquire shares in Kraken from CPP Investment Board Private Holdings as part of a broader transaction to spin off the Kraken technology business from UK-based Octopus Energy Group. The regulator said the deal would allow Origin to maintain its existing economic interest in Kraken while removing its exclusivity over the Kraken platform in Australia.
