Argo Bowen 2's bid to acquire Bowen Coking Coal triggers Australian regulatory review

( March 10, 2026, 08:02 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Argo Bowen 2's proposal to acquire 100 percent of shares in Bowen Coking Coal and certain wholly owned subsidiaries will be reviewed under Australia’s mandatory merger regime. In a statement on Tuesday, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission said Bowen Coking Coal, which went into voluntary administration in July 2025, develops, produces and sells metallurgical and thermal coal. The acquisition proposal also includes Bowen Coking Coal’s interests in the Burton Mining Complex, Broadmeadow East Mine and associated infrastructure in the Bowen Basin, but excludes the Bluff Mine. Argo Bowen 2 is ultimately owned by Mercuria Argo Investments, an energy and commodity trading group, and Eclipse Mining 2.  The regulator issued a questionnaire and will accept submissions or information in response it until March 17.Statement follows.
