IBM's proposal to acquire Confluent receives Australian regulatory approval

( March 3, 2026, 00:35 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US-based IBM’s proposal to acquire Confluent, an open-source enterprise-data streaming platform, has been cleared by the Australian competition regulator. In a determination published on Tuesday, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission said IBM and Confluent are not currently, nor would they likely be in the future, close alternatives for customers for Event Stream Processing Software, “including because their offerings are differentiated by distribution and functionality.” The regulator said IBM is active worldwide in the development, production and marketing of IT solutions, including cloud infrastructure provided through IBM Cloud and multiple Event Stream Processing Software offerings. The regulator added that Confluent provides cloud-native and on-premise Event Stream Processing Software offerings that enable organizations to publish, subscribe to, store and process real-time data streams.Determination is attached....
