Japan to consider updating METI takeover guidelines

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, or METI, is reconvening the panel to assess how the guidelines have been interpreted and to consider possible updates, based on the panel's proposal, which is expected to be drafted around April. The 2023 guidelines urged company boards to consider unsolicited takeover bids from the perspective of enhancing corporate value and protecting shareholders’ interests, contributing to an increase in unsolicited tender offers.
