South Korea accelerates slot, traffic-right transfers on Korean Air–Asiana overlap routes

( January 6, 2026, 02:44 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Korean Air and Asiana Airlines’ merger remedies advanced as South Korea’s transport ministry and the Korea Fair Trade Commission said they had selected substitute airlines to take over slots and traffic rights on key overlap routes. Alaska Airlines was chosen for Incheon–Seattle, Air Premia for Incheon–Honolulu and T’way Air for Incheon–Jakarta; on the Gimpo–Jeju corridor, Eastar Jet, Jeju Air, T’way Air and Parata Air were selected for 87 weekly summer and 74 weekly winter frequencies. Authorities said the selected carriers will reflect the assigned slots in their business plans, with substitute airlines expected to enter the affected routes sequentially from the first half of the year. They added that transfers were already completed on six routes — Incheon–Los Angeles, Incheon–San Francisco, Incheon–Barcelona, Incheon–Frankfurt, Incheon–Paris and Incheon–Rome — and that the remaining remedy-route transfers will be expedited from the first half of the year. The statement, in Korean, is attached....
