Korean Air–Asiana to start slot, traffic-right transfers on 10 monopoly routes

( October 21, 2025, 03:20 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Korean Air and Asiana Airlines will begin the process of transferring airport slots and traffic rights on 10 monopoly routes to rival carriers, following a decision by the merger’s implementation monitoring committee on Monday. According to the Korea Fair Trade Commission, the batch covers Incheon–Seattle, Incheon–Honolulu, Incheon–Guam, Busan–Guam, Incheon–London, Incheon–Jakarta and four Jeju domestic pairs, with US and UK authorities already naming Air Premia and Virgin Atlantic as replacement carriers for the relevant routes. The regulator’s conditional clearance required divestments across 34 routes, and six long-haul transfers to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Barcelona, Frankfurt, Paris and Rome have already been completed.
