Don't let merger laws capture unsuitable transactions, Australian lawyers tell government

( September 16, 2025, 05:32 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Australian lawyers are calling on the government to review country's newly implemented merger regime to ensure it doesn’t capture “a wide range of general commercial transactions,” including many that may not be suitable for merger review. In a statement to MLex, Law Council of Australia President Juliana Warner also said that the government should reconsider how the new merger regime applies the test for what companies are “connected” to a dealmaker, because it requires a very complex assessment of what revenue needs to be considered when determining thresholds.
