US FTC rejects GTCR, Surmodics' divestiture remedy; companies want mediation

( August 17, 2025, 02:17 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US Federal Trade Commission told GTCR and Surmodics on Aug. 13 that it rejected a proposed remedy for their deal "as falling significantly short of protecting competition." The FTC said when the companies first raised the issue, a full divestiture of Biocoat would likely have preserved competition. But it said GTCR and Surmodics "chose to pursue a piecemeal divestiture." The government said partial divestitures such as the one proposed are more likely to fail than divestitures of a full, standalone business. The companies hope to address the government's concerns through mediation.See file attached....
