Lactalis' acquisition of Fonterra businesses gets Australian clearance

( July 10, 2025, 00:08 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Lactalis’ proposed acquisition of businesses within the Fonterra Co-operative Group, including its consumer business globally and its dairy-ingredients and food-services businesses in Australia, has been cleared by Australia’s competition watchdog. In a statement announcing its decision, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission said that while it acknowledged the concerns raised by some representative bodies, it had determined that the acquisition was unlikely to result in a substantial lessening of competition. Commissioner Mick Keogh said that while the industry in Tasmania was already concentrated, Lactalis had a limited presence in the state and the acquisition wouldn’t substantially alter market dynamics.
