Request by Pioneer founder Scott Sheffield, US FTC for litigation stay granted

( June 30, 2025, 22:35 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Pioneer Natural Resources founder and longtime petroleum industry executive Scott Sheffield joined the US Federal Trade Commission in their request for an extension until July 30 of the pre-existing stay of Sheffield's lawsuit against the FTC, and US District Judge Mark Pittman granted the request shortly after it was submitted. Judge Pittman paused litigation concerning Sheffield's request to void the portion of the FTC's settlement with ExxonMobil — which acquired Pioneer — that forbids him from serving on Exxon's board of directors. Attorneys for the FTC and Sheffield told Judge Pittman a stay would "allow the Parties to benefit from the clarity provided by an FTC ruling, resulting in either an efficient stipulated dismissal or an efficient resumption of litigation at that time."See docket entry below.
