Japan's SoftBank Group to acquire Ampere Computing for $6.5 billion

The Japanese tech company aims to leverage Ampere’s expertise in high-performance, energy-efficient processors, which are specialized for next-generation cloud computing and artificial intelligence workloads, to enhance SoftBank Group ARM’s chip design capabilities. The company plans to finalize the transaction by December 2025, pending customary regulatory approvals, including US antitrust clearance and approval by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, as well as the satisfaction or waiver of other closing conditions.
